So far I’ve been lucky enough to drive pretty fast cars – well, a lot of them and some were very fast indeed. The 488 Pista, the last of the special Ferraris, is not just fast. In fact the driving experience can’t be reduced to its sheer ability to rip your face from the skull as you push down the throttle on a straight line. It’s through the bends that the magic really happens. That’s a sort of devilish pact with unknown laws of physics in which you start to realize that for really understand what the car is capable of, you have to play Russian roulette with your own life.
As the 488 Pista boasts 721-hp and 770 Nm of max torque you can easily imagine how a spirited drive on the hills outside Maranello can be, but believe me when I say that’s not just all about pure power. There’s a connection between your spine and the road, you feel every slightest variation of the hot tarmac bitten by the huge tires that glue this amazing berlinetta as if it was on a rail-track and then, as if this wasn’t enough, the V8 thunders its insane scream through the valley, drawing the ultimate dream drive for every self-respecting enthusiast. Yep, we can call it a day.
