The Toughest Race in the World through vintage posters
The weekend between the 13th and 14th of June will host the more exciting race of the entire year: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Now in its 83rd edition, the ultimate endurance race has all that it takes to give even more spectacle than usual, thanks to the assault that Porsche will carry to Team Audi, rulers of all the latest editions. To spend the hours of waiting that separate us from the incredible spectacle that the LMP1 cars and the other categories will give us in a full day of racing on the fast but technical circuit of de la Sarthe, we want to browse through some of the most beautiful posters of the past decades, which despite being written with few and simple designs were able to capture the attention and let the viewer’s imagination run free, just before attending the amazing motorsport event, beholding their favorite drivers race to the limit, regardless of weather conditions or nightfall. Plus, years ago, cars participating in the 24h were nothing more than road models modified with only a few tricks for being even faster and lighter: the opposite of the monsters of technology and power that today we see whizzing down the straight of the French track.
The evolution of Le Mans follows more than any other the automotive and engineering developments we have experienced over the years. I’m sure that you, like me, have clearly in mind some on board footage of the scary Porsche 917.
