These Are The New BMW M3 and M4. Love It Or Hate It!
So much awaited and criticized, the new M3 and M4 have finally been unveiled to the public to the detriment of detractors who do not seem to like the stylistic direction taken by the brand, they present themselves behind a radical change in terms of design. But this generation of performance-focused BMW is not only characterized by a huge front grille, because they still represent two reference models for the sedan and sports coupe segment. Let’s dive into this.
We begin from the bottom – with the prices – where we start from € 95,900 and from € 100,400 the Competition. Among them there are important differences that mainly concern the engine, that is a 6-cylinder in-line 3-liter turbo with 480 hp and 550 Nm of torque, or 510 hp and 650 Nm of torque for the most hardcore variant. The engine, despite the total weight of the new model being comes close to a ton and eight hundred kilos, contributes to reducing the masses, thanks to a 3D printing process related to the injection and intake systems, which among other things also improve overall performance.
On a dynamic point of view, the agility and the desire to attack bends, both on the road and on track, is therefore maintained, having both the 6-speed manual transmission and the faster M Steptronic with 8-speed Drivelogic, respectively able to push the “normal” version from 0-100 kph in 4.2 seconds and the Competition in just 3.9 seconds. Also on the Competition it is possible to opt for the all-wheel drive M xDrive – as an alternative to the RWD – which manages the torque distribution through a brain that will minimize the dispersion of power and increase grip on slippery grounds.
The new M3 and M4, especially in the Competition spec, are ready to satisfy the most disparate needs of their customers and despite a look that is either to be loved or hated, once on board they will leave room for what they represent for generations, that is the purest driving pleasure.
