This Jetta Is More Than A VW With Ferrari Wheels | Your Cars
The cars world is getting wider these days. You no longer have just petrol or diesel ones, but also hybrid and full electrics as well. So what if I tell you there’s something more then and take note, ‘cause I do not refer myself as hydrogen or water-powered prototypes. Some sort of a niche close to the traditional tuning world, it would be easy to encounter crossover models. What? What the hell is a crossover now? We’re not talking about music. Well, let me explain plain and simple. Get a car, lower it, make its body shine and turn its interior into a very nice plate to be and then, what about fitting a VW Jetta MK1 with a set of Ferrari wheels?
That’s what I’m talking about and that’s why when we first saw David’s Volksrrari we had to know more about this wonderful and unpredictable piece of cars world. So this is what he told us.
Hi mate, what is your name?
Hello, my name is David Rugtier and I’m from Namur, Belgium. I drive a 1981 Jetta coupe MK1.
How did your passion for cars come about?
My father was a car enthusiast. He used to have so many cars changing them regularly. He always owned German cars (VAG group), so this is how he handed down his passion and taste for cars to me.
Then I went to several VAG meetings and it really made me feel better. I started modifying cars when I was 20 years old. Over time, my projects were more and more advanced and sophisticated.
Is there any particular reason why you chose this car?
I had a big crush for its look and for being an unusual model.
Before this one, you had a VW Golf V right? Why did you choose to move from a contemporary model to a youngtimer one?
The Jetta was a project I had for a while, but I was waiting for the right opportunity to find the one that suited me the most. Originally my VW Golf V was my everyday car and I also modified it little by little.
Then, the project of having a youngtimer never left my head, I decided to take the plunge with my Jetta.
How long have you been working on your Jetta?
Since the end of October 2018. The modifications are still in progress (surprise to come).
What can you tell us about these wheels?
A Ferrari Mistral set – 3 removable parts – with new screws, paint, everything. Pretty expensive but you can’t argue they fit like a glove.
What are the next changes you are considering?
I don’t like to reveal my modification projects to the public. I prefer to keep the suspense and let the surprise be even greater when it’s time to reveal the end result.
We have noticed that you attend many events. What is it like to be involved in these crazy car meetings?
Since I’m part of the Risenation group, I do attend a lot of events. You can bet on that. I like to share this passion with other people, whether friends or strangers. I also like to see the projects/developments of other cars at events like this. For me it’s a moment for sharing, relax, pleasure and above all enjoy the company with the different people attending.
What other car would you like to start a project with?
At the moment none, because I like doing only one project at a time. I am meticulous on every detail and I like that a project is completed 100% before starting a new one.
