Volkswagen Golf R | News
Still fresh from its main unveiling, even with the GTI version, the eighth generation Golf keeps pushing by unveiling the mighty R, the most powerful street-legal Golf and also the one that promises to be the best to drive. The 4-cylinder turbo – a 2-liter TSI – delivers 320 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque between 2,100 and 5,350 rpm on both axles thanks to an updated 4Motion traction system assisted by the new R-Performance Torque Vectoring, which offers the possibility to manage the power on each rear wheels. 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and the inevitable driving modes (Comfort, Sport, Race and Individual) allow you to take advantage of the civilian side that it shares with any other Golf, or unleash a 0-100 in 4.7 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 250 per hour, in the angrier settings.
There is more, in fact, the Golf R is not just a sharper body, 19″ rims, 20 mm lowered suspension and 10% stiffer springs, because as an option you can have two additional driving modes called Special and Drift, with the first to guarantee maximum performance even on uneven surfaces such as those of the Nurburgring – where it has been specially developed – and the second to prefer power on the rear wheels by means of a specific ESC setting.
At the rear there are two couple of pretty loud exhausts, with the possibility of equipping it with an even more aggressive Akrapovic titanium system, the ideal tool to forget, at least in the most excited driving moments, the excellent multimedia system which features a 10″ main screen and Discover Cockpit Pro in front of the driver’s eyes, who excels for the various “track-focused” modes such as the R-View which provides a large round tachometer always clearly visible and a menu dedicated to better manage the new Drift mode. Finally we have racing seats, plenty of logos scattered here and there and a shortcut button called R and positioned on the steering wheel, to immediately switch to Race and transform your everyday Golf into the ultimate Golf.
